Let's get the negative out of the way first. This looks like somebody cracked the casting and welded it back up. It looks solid and feels solid. Usually these welds are stronger than the casting. My guess is that the same guy that slightly bent the handle (see picture#3) over-tightened the vise with the jaws out of parallel.

Another negative is that the vise doesn't have the brace or attachment for under the bench. These are commonly missing and they can be made up or purchased from the guy that makes Emmert repro parts.

Anyway, enough negative. The positives are plenty. It has a nice original patina. I think the hhandle is original. All (4) the dogs work correctly, the jaw tilt mechanism works great.

The jaws are 15 3/4 by 8 inches.

The serial number is 6062.

The mortice for the mounting bracket would be 6 1/2 inches wide and 2 5/8th inches deep. It weighs about the same as an emmert, maybe a little more.

It's rarer than an Emmert, so you won't have the same vise as every other Galoot.You'll see dozens of Emmerts before you see another one of these.

It's a great tool that I bought several years ago and have never installed. I've got an old turtleback Emmert and a later Emmert, so I don't think I'll miss this one too much, although I did once dream of having a bench with a patternmaker's vise on all four corners... What was I thinking?
